DESIGN CONCEPT
Wood Slats and Exposed Concrete: Harmonizing the Balance of Solid and Void
Japanese Zen-style interior design uses natural materials to respond to the spirit, with simplicity and warmth as the foundation of life, creating a relaxed and free space that brings a calming and peaceful energy. Centered on people and accompanied by nature, it allows the soul to rest and purify here, embodying the essence of Zen.
The entryway cloakroom features a dual-access design, perfectly reflecting practical living. The corridor space with two entrances also includes cabinetry, allowing the living room area to open up more space and creating a broader, more open visual field.
The living room area is defined by furniture, separating the open study and piano practice space while preserving the largest possible scale and activity area for two energetic children. The style incorporates wood lattice elements, extending to the ceiling as a refined corridor with an orderly layout integrating door panels. Additionally, the exposed concrete wall serves as the main TV wall, complemented by a terrazzo tile wall—forming the two primary walls of the living room. Seemingly simple yet richly elegant, this minimalist Japanese Zen-style mansion exudes grandeur.
During the day, the view of lush greenery outside the window enriches the visual layers, creating a pure and natural living atmosphere. In the evening after dinner, the living room lowers the projection screen for the whole family to enjoy audiovisual programs together, transforming the space into the children’s most anticipated family bonding time—enriching beautiful moments of daily life.
The dining and kitchen areas continue the home's rustic and elegant style; the island design connects to a long wooden table. The extended wooden countertop cleverly creates a sense of expanded space. The slatted wall integrates doors and storage cabinets between solid and void, while the orderly lines complement the dining area's pendant lighting, highlighting a clean and bright dining environment.
The master bedroom is planned with a circular traffic flow, featuring a simple headboard design paired with floor-level double mattresses. Soft lighting reflects a sense of relaxed comfort. The extensive use of wood tones not only serves as a palette to soothe the homeowner’s emotions and stress but also enhances the connection with nature.
The elder’s room features a lounging area with a Japanese-style tea table and woven floor mats for sitting, creating a zen-inspired lifestyle aesthetic. Warm lighting softly diffuses along the walls, adding a gentle warmth to the tranquil space, making it a peaceful zen retreat.
